The stove in the office is needing installed as I keep meeting Aslan and the White Witch in there when I'm working. It's a wee 4KW "Hobbit" stove and is a proper little gem. I'm going for top-exit for the 100mm flue as it'll make the run a single straight into the register plate; the hearth's not the largest so keeping it back in the alcove is also sensible.
Here's the jobs that need doing and some shots of what exists already:
I decided to make the frame first and use it as a bit of formwork for the lintel. I used 50 x 5 equal angle mild steel to build up the frame. I'm trying something new here (only for me I'm sure) by cutting the backs short by 2 x thickness and then cutting the angles in the web. I'm hoping the reduced corner profile will make grinding afterwards not needed / reduced and also the walls are not exactly straight.
Register plate went okay, used some 4mm plate to make the plate and formed a strip of it to make the collar. I didn't have a die large enough so I used a bit of beech woodfuel as a rough die and it worked admirably
Here's the jobs that need doing and some shots of what exists already:
- Pointing
- Cast additional lintel (it's VERY concave)
- Construct frame
- Construct register plate
- Shorten flue to fit
- Clean up the stove
- Paint (boooooo!)
- Installation and Commissioning
