Just wondered what books you guys here might recommend on welding especially TIG welding and any small simple projects for a beginner. This isn't exclusive to TIG welding but open to any process.
As for projects, I'm doing a campervan conversion so have various things to make for that, but as I've got more confident with welding I notice things around the house that need making, fixing or improving and I'm looking for excuses to get the welder out.
Get some scrap to practise on; old beds, treadmills, office furniture etc can be got cheap or free. As you develop your skills, you'll start thinking of things to make if you haven't already got a project in mind.
The ones I have found useful are:
Metals and how to weld them - Good reference book to keep handy in the workshop
Arc welding procedure handbook - Interesting read, some useful stuff if you aren't familiar with the ins and outs of the different processes
Design of welded structures - If you are designing things yourself as projects (that you have to prove will work), this is a pretty good start. Its effectively my bible at work.
Design of weldments - If you find it online let me know!
They are usually expensive to get here, but I have found pdfs online of many of them and also got some from work.
The website I linked to has books on project ideas too. Once you have a bit of practice under your belt, a welding table is a common project. Another idea which is much smaller would be a third hand. If unsure, search welders third hand on google images.
