I have been running classes in making metal sculptures for some time now.
The last few months they have really taken off, I am currently averaging one a week.
Last weekend I had a group of four ladies, interestingly it is mostly women and they all arrive scared to death then go on to do amazing things.
I am always bowled over by the both the quality of ideas and the quality of work produced.
Here are a few pictures from recent sessions. I generally try to get people to do two days to avoid pressure at the end to get things finished.
None of the people featured had even seen a welder before their courses.
This is after a few minutes of instruction
Here is the tree she was making, a memorial to her mum.
This lady wanted to make some human figures inspired by her boy's martial arts activities.
She did all the welding and brazing.
Here she is doing the brazing
The weekend before last I had four ladies in for a weekend, this is what they made between them.
They came in all nervous and scared, two days later we were all exhausted. The only bits I did was welding the feet on the boy with the book.
I get a huge buzz from this process, watching people go from bowled over and confused to just getting on with it. By the end of the weekend I am usually standing around, saying 'yes fine yes fine' as people get on with their work.
Hard work but very rewarding. it even pays well. But I do earn it.
Last up.
This lady wanted to start a sculpture group at the school she teaches at, I offered advice on equipment. She turned up with plasma cutter, Mig welder, metal craft tools, a whole set, masks the whole caboodle. Cost the school an absolute fortune.
Three weeks after her course she sent me these pictures.
Amazing stuff.
