They are indeed dents , there is no damage to the surface of the leather . I just wanted to know if there is a method for drawing / raising the leather back up without damage . they are minimal but it would be nice to get them out .
I have used the same to raise dents in timber / gun stocks but didn't weather it would work on leather as I don't want to ruin it , I'll look into the hair drier trick too , but I'm thinking that's just going dry it out and stretch itI have seen folk using an iron and a wet cloth, the idea being the steam can draw the dents out. I’ve never used it myself, and not sure how effective the hair drier would be. But there again, upholstery leather has a lot of ‘give’ in it, so you never know.
In either case,I’d urge caution.

the marks aren't finger nails . the wheel came from a breakers and they've had it sat upside down on something the worst is the three small perfectly parallel marks but at the end of the day they are not horrendous ., but if I can get any of them out even slightly I'll be happier .I have used a hairdryer to repair many a dent in car leather seats and steering wheels too. And I have also used leather filler and dye to DIY refurbish to professional standard with careful practice.
I do think those steering wheel marks are likely to be from nails and may not come out but you have nothing to lose with a hairdryer waved over it at moderate heat. Use your other hand to touch the leather and monitor the temp. If the leather is too hot for you to hold your hand on them damage can occur. But otherwise it will do no damage if used with care.
Feed the dent with baby oil?
I use a steamer, also a hot air gun and have been known to use a cloth and iron. One place I worked did some car upholstery and they used a steamer to remove wrinkles, have you got a steam wallpaper stripper?.
