Are you using a tip stand off. I have an r tech 40 amp plasma, which will play up cutting 10mm plate with the stand off.
Always drag the tip on heavy stuff.
As mentioned above, it can have good days and bad, which I think is mainly down to chinese consumables. Sometimes I think you I get a good tip and electrode pair that works well together. Other times not.
It's a good machine though. 10 years plus and going strong. Regularly consider upgrading, but in reality the r teck does the job well enough.
Im using the he standard drag tips and a straight edge where I can. No stand off
I'm thinking it's down to the torch or consumables. Not sure if there is a sourse of quality Pt31 torch parts. Perhaps look into a different torch. I only for the machine in August. Finance paid in February next year
