Hi there,
I've done a bit of stick/Mig welding, looking into buying an AC DC Tig set for welding thinish allluminium.
I've been looking at this forum (very helpful by the way!) and a few other sites to see what the best options are.
My budget is £500-£1000. I'm well aware this isn't much money for a AC DC tig welder, but I'm hoping I can work with what I've got.
I'll be powering these off a single phase supply, making a nice big shed in the garden and getting power put in there.
As I don't really have a good reliable other welder to hand the more amps the better so I can work on thicker steel as well.
Here are the current options I've found and prices:
Miller 275 syncrowave (serial 060010694) £450 but over 300 miles away from me, is it worth the trip?
Murex transtig 252 £850 coming from a college, then a workshop. with footpedal, torch
Murex transtig 201i £1000 with torch. Comes with 4 month warranty from welder dealer.
Parweld xtt 202p £900 posted with 3 year warranty and hand torch
r tech 160 amp £899 with torch, pedal etc.
I've checked and all these machines are able to be run off my standard home mains supply, though obviously the syncrowave would struggle with the amount of power it needs.
Basically I'm debating between purchasing higher end gear that's quite old or purchasing new stuff with warranties.
If those old machines do blow up, how easy are they to repair? I do have a bit of electronics knowledge.
