I've been coerced at work to take over/learn to use the cat, pug, moggy tractor to weld 8mm fillet on the toe of 10mm flanges over a 7metre length, what I can't prevent is the toe of the flange burning away, I've tried adjusting the volts/amps, the travel speed of the tractor, the angle of the torch:
If I bring the volts/amps down the weld leg length is too small, 7/7-5 mm, slowing the tractor increases the build up, but not the leg, increasing the voltage from 30-5 up to 31 results in the weld reaching the toe and destroying the sharp corner:
I know it can be done, I've been shown, the lad that used to operate it starts a new job tomorrow
The gas flow is correct, the correct gas argon/18co2: at the moment I'm flummoxed:
