home now and just getting back into the swing of things.
Here's some things I aquired while away
First up an Adze, don't need it but always wanted one. This is supplied unfinished and without an edge to allow the user to customise to THIER own preference. Ive seen a few in use out there and will be gently rou ding the edges so it doesn't bite into the wood. I have a handle but will make a better one out of some ash I have at home.
Next up is a pair of blacksmiths tongs I bought from a tool shop, cost less than a pound
Next on my travels we went to see the blacksmith that my brother in law uses to make the spikes he uses on some of his gates. He had a very crude workshop on the side of a road in a small village. The forge was set in the ground and used a simple hand operated blower to provide air. After looking at his hand made tools I wanted the same, so a quick trip to thevworkshop to pick up some rebar and 5x20 mm flat bar we were back at the blacksmiths. I watched for the next 90 minutes a master at work and the end result is below, cost me a whole 2 quid in labour fees
Not content with these I also wanted a custom chopper, so after sourcing some truck leaf spring we were back at the blacksmiths. This time we didn't have time to stick around and watch but four hours later on our way back home we picked this up
I'm astounded by the quality of work produced by the simplest of tools and equipment that most trades have out there
