hi
been and got an ac/dc welder at last but when im doing alloy
i cant get it to ball!!!
tried it with a sharpend tip but found the arc kept going all over the place!
Is it a transformer welder ? Inverter doesn't need a ball just put a small flat on the end of the point. If it's a transformer sharpen your tungsten them set it to DC on a high current and just arc up briefly on a piece of steel to blunt it.
What tungsten electrode are you using. The white tipped zirconiated ones will ball up nicely, if your using the red tipped thoriated type then you will not get it to ball.

I have a Cebora Special Tig, its a transformer AC/DC HF start , I dont get a ball on my Tungsten either! use the white tipped ones for Aluminium never has balled up , is there a reason for this ? dont have any trouble welding with it but interested to know of any answers to this one !
