Hello guys and girls,
I'm in need of some advice, specifically on the meeting the full power requirements of my arc welder. The power lead is less than a meter long, so from where its situated for use (in my shed) It's been drawing power from a 4 meter extension lead. This has been fine with no problems until recently when i turned the amps up to 3/4 of the way to try to sustain an arc on some 7018 rods, which it did, but after 5 minutes, the fuse in the extension chord crapped out. Replaced the fuse and im back to the lower amps with my 6013 rods.
I'm in need of a more suitable extension lead for my welder so i can utilise more of its potential. Here are my welders power information
SiP Merlin 150 - (Your typical 50v ocv transformer buzz box)
Min. welding power - 45amps Maximum - 150amps
Power 3.9kW
(It needs to be at least 5 - 6 meters in length)
Does the length of the cable affect amperage/voltage transfer, or would it be just easier to wire a new longer piece of heavy gauge flex into the welder unit?
Thanks in advance!
