Hi all, first post here so bear with me!
Used my Portamig 185 a couple of times and absolutely love it - I'm using it to fix up a Porsche 914 and it's perfect for bodywork repairs.. Trouble is I'm getting mixed results because of a wire feed issue.
I'm using a 5kg reel with adaptors and firstly have the large blue adaptor 'engaged' with the black fixing of the machine. Then the reel is on there and that is engaged to the blue adaptor and locked off with the large plastic nut. So when the wire feed motor pulls the wire, the reel turns the entire assembly....with me?!
Problem is that the reel is not rotating smoothly - as if the main black fixing is jamming somewhere inside the main body of the machine. So the wire is 'jumping' then 'stalling' out of the torch giving me some interesting weld results!
It's definitely not a problem with the motor itself because it pulls fine and steady when I disengage the reel from the blue locking adaptor.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Ollie.
