Getting ready to build/buy a 8'x4' welding table. I'll be drilling it with a mag drill for fixtures/clamps.
New steel prices seem to be incredibly high and out of budget - I think my choice would be either using a 'road plate' for the top (which comes in the right size and a nice 12mm thick) or buying an old table/surface table. Road plate seems great, but I worry that it'll be bent and not sure if it can be bolted flat against a heavy frame.
A new plate seems to be about £500
A used road plate about £250
Cast iron surface tables, ready to drill, seem to be in the £400 - £1000 range, but sizes vary and rarely seem to be a full size.
I'm currently leaning towards a surface table due to ease and flatness - and compromising on the size. But just wondering if anyone had any clever ideas of bargain tables?
