when i was eleven i started junior stock car racing which was bacially small 1.2 litre hatchbacks race aroung a 1/4 oval.we built a Peugeot 106 for me to race...
after a few races i had a smallish(big) accident with the wall...
about a week later we got the car off the trailer and set up to work on...
the plan was to cut out the front left corner and weld in the identical corner which is cut out of a 5 door 106...
we cut out the corner including about 5 inches of the door sill
in to photo below on the right is the five door shell which we are using
we go both corners out and started to line them up...
we did a qick mock up of body panels...yay
it looked well i was surprised myself on how well it turned out.as when i am racing i am only turning right roung the oval i decided to give the front left wheel a little camber to help it corner so i took the suspension arm and made it longer by about an inch and a half...
we got the engine and brakes threw back in, luckly the engine mounts lined up.
my dad an electrcian at the time made me a dash out of aluminium and plastic... thanks dad...he also rewired the whole car.yay
all that was left to do was;
replace strut,
brake caliper,
pads,
fit panels,
paint.
so we put the strut in...
we had trouble with the brale caliper so we go a new one...
we cracked open the tin of paint...
afterward we painted the dash...
and the finished product was...
i was peased with the result of a week of long nights and mornings, we got the dash fitted it looked really good for and old plastic drum, cut up and stuck to the steering column...
sadly the first race out the engine blew up we still havent found the reason why, but we got a whole new car just for the engine...
so at least we had some spares.i started searching for some nice lookin rims to use, i bought 5 steel rims for £15,..
afterward we bought the other car, the one for the engine, and we got some nice rims from it which look pretty cool on it...
i took the steel rims and painted four i had black and the othe four i bought silver...i'm having a tough time deciding which rims to use...
the next day i got bored im class...
at the last race the scrutineer say we needed to make a fuel tank guard out of sheet metal so four hour before the next race we made a guard...
it turned out well. at that race i noticed in the wet the car slides aound alot so we lowered the tyre pressure to 35psi, that didnt really help, so i thought maybe it has to do with the back end being so high compared to the front.me and my dad have absoulutely no idea about torsion bar suspension. can anybody give me tips???
has anybody any idea about lowering them????
