Hopefully I'm going to be building a pergola like the one below for someone. I'd planned to build it from 40x40x5 T-section with something else for the cross pieces. I've allowed for 50cm to be concreted into the ground.
The thing is I don't want it to look to heavily engineered and I'm beginning to think that maybe I've got the arches too far apart for me to be able to use anything too fine for the cross pieces. I had initially thought about 12mm rounds for the cross pieces but obviously they will bow. Especially as it is going to have several wires strung along it for plants to grow on.
What does anyone think? Should I move the arches closer together or go for something much bigger for the cross pieces? Probably more of the T-Section.
Cheers, guys.
