problems get good penetration running flat butt joint 1/4 steel 30 degree bevel 1/16 landing 3/32 opening 3/32 rod and 3/32 tungsten at 150amps any help would be great thanks
For this type of butt I would set up with more bevel, 75deg included angle. Root gap 3/32, root face 1/16. Tungsten 3/32, wire 3/32, current around 130 Amps. As Backpurge suggests, keyholing is the way to go. At the leading edge of the root look for the root faces melting away, an onion shaped hole will form which you should fill by adding filler wire, try to keep the onion a uniform size, as long as you can see the onion you are fusing the root faces. If the keyhole is getting too large then you can dump some heat by sweeping up the sidewall and adding filler.
