I'm hoping some of the folks here who've been there and done it before can help me. On this occasion Google has not been very helpful...
I have just taken delivery of a new MG bodyshell supplied in e-coat primer. BMH recommend "the electrophoretic applied primer should not be removed from the body surfaces, nor rubbed through to expose bare metal; it should be prepared and have a polyurethane surfacer applied. This is a suitable and compatible basis for most modern top coat paint finishes."
Am I correct in thinking that most people when referring to 2K primer (containing isocyantes) are actually talking about a polyurethane system. In other words the paint I have been advise to use.
I also see references to acrylic and epoxy paints being 2K and also to acrylic urethane primers.
Is it just me being a bear of very little brain or is there a lot of loose terminology used on the internet when it comes to paint.
Can any one shed some light please. Any helpful suppliers in the Lancashire area?
By the way, may plan is to brush / roller the surfacer coat on the underside / inside of the shell, apply the topcoat, build up the rolling chassis and have a pro finish to the top / outside.
Cellulose is my preferred finish given ease of future cutting / polishing and touching up. Any compatibility issues?
Thanks,
Duncan
