oxy-propane cutting

hi all, im recentl;y at college doing a level 2 in welding and fab. i have a 19kg bottle of propane and 2 bottles of 02 and wanting to do some cutting. so what else do i need? i have 1 regulator but thats for acetelene, can this be used? i have no regulator for the o2, how much do these cost? also do i need to do anything to the torch? any help would be great

You will need tips for propane for the torch. they are a bit different than the O/A ones.

I used my acetylene reg on propane. Worked fine. The hoses need to be rated for propane.

right thhe big torch i think is for cutting but not sure, could anyone reasure me.

the small one in the pic, i know this one is for welding as i use this at college.

and finaly the reg for acetelene. would this be ok.

Propane needs propane piping, usually orange in colour. You should be able to use your Argon regulator for the oxygen if you have one.

Okay, you should be using a propane regulator, and propane hoses....
Acetylene ones will work though. Torch wise, the nozzles are different as shenion mentioned. Im not all that clued up on the varieties of cutting torch tbh, couldn't tell you if all the torches are interchangeable between fuel gases, or if both tips are available for all torches.

where would i get the propane nozzles from for both torches?

This is the sort of nozzle that would be needed for the cutting torch. You can see the inner brass type bit and the outer copper part.

Don't know about the smaller torch...is it a small portable mapp gas type of thing.

If the small one is used for welding it will probably be acetylene only.

That looks like a sapphire, or one of its clones to me, quite old too.

Probably right Paul, cutting lever doesnt look right looking at it again.

Best way to get the right nozzle is to find out a brand, or take the existing one out to compare.

BOC will condemn the lot & try to flog you new equipment Rightly so though, that Acetylene regulator is circa 1970's, the hoses have perished (with no crimp fittings at either end) & the cutter looks well past it's best.
Replace the lot...you can't take enough safety precautions with Oxy/Fuel gas equipment; you will need a two piece cutting nozzle for Propane

just wondering if you can buy hobby accetylene from anywhere? also i have 2 02 medical bottles that someone siad i can use, where can i get these filled up apart from boc and places like that? cheers
