I've got my last 2 mild steel test peices to do on my welding course in the UK: open root weld in the flat and vertical positions. I'm going to be using a 2.5mm (3/32") 7018 electrode.
What root face and gap is recommended?
I think the college prepares the bevel at 45degrees whereas I notice that for open pipe root the bevel is 30degrees; should I make sure the bevel is 30deg or leave it at 45deg?
I know you should not whip a 7018 electrode otherwise you get oprosity, so any tips on manipulation of the pool to control the keyhole?
Thanks
Martin
