Hello all, Yorkshire newbie here looking for help with ADR300 welder. I have just bought this welder and knowing nothing about TIG I put a plug on the welder input cable, I used two wires out of the three and the green for earth. All seemed well until I pressed the gas purge switch and the torch button I then saw sparks and smoke from the inside of the machine. I switched off and took the panels off and found what looked like a variac had melted its bonding and had fallen off. I also noticed a resistor (I think) had been hot and was disconnected from its wires this was at the bottom right of the machine as you look at it from the rear, I think it has something to do with the foot pedal control. This looked as if it hadn't been connected for some time and was not caused by me. The wires connecting to it had been hot and had melted together. Does it matter which way round the two mains supply cables are connected. The variac type resister has shorted and has a strip of copper parted where the carbon brush wipes as the knob is turned it is a L500 Bercostat. type L500 OHMS 62 mine looks as if it could be repaired, any advice would be appreciated.
