I agree, I just wouldn't stress missing it from time to timeDoesn't hurt to maintain them all the same.

A lot of Record vices have an oil hole in the moving jaw, to lubricate the thread.

Graphite (proper old school pencil "lead") is also a good lubricant for say woodworking vices where you don't want any oily contamination.
Graphite is not sporty. Only real lard, but where can I get it now?I add it to the beeswax I use for coating stuff, for that reason, (colouring too). Between the wax & the powder, should be ample.
Mine gets all the flux that drips of the parts I'm soldering, and consequently, it's rusty as heck.Mine just gets the oil that has dripped of parts that the vice is holding and wd40 overspray
Inspired by this thread, I went and cleaned up my little number 3 (never realised it was blue) and lubricated the thread from underneath with some squirt.
Have been rewarded by the screw just unscrewing until it comes right out with no movement of the jaw
That's nothing to do with lubrication.Inspired by this thread, I went and cleaned up my little number 3 (never realised it was blue) and lubricated the thread from underneath with some squirt.

Ain't that the truth ! I should have learned this lesson by now, there is a catalogue of punished good deeds. There is a saying: "No good deed goes unpunished". Fits your situation perfectly.
Well it was fine (ish) and had been for years before I oiled it !That's nothing to do with lubrication.
Ooooo. Washer and spring ? I will have a look laterThe pin has come out on the screw which retains the washer & spring.
