Hi Guys and Girls,
Complete rookie to welding here. I have a cheap Chinese stick/arc inverter welder I managed to pickup from marketplace for £20. I’ve got a cheap welding table coming, gloves, welding apron and a decent helmet coming and then I’ll be ready to practice on some scrap metal (I’ve already got a chipping hammer, although I think I’ll need a better one).
I’ve started with stick/arc purely because of the price and did read in a few places that arc can be harder in a lot of ways so when you go to mig it will be somewhat easier.
My first actual job is to attempt to weld a couple of nuts onto broken studs on a rusty/cruddy hub where the heads snapped off to hopefully free them. I will get some practice in before hand on scrap pieces.
There has been many times where I’ve been doing a job maybe working on my car or other DIY and have come across the same thought “if only I could weld”.
Plan is in the future to get a Gas mig either if a good deal comes up on marketplace or I do end up using this arc welder a bit.
Nice to meet you all
