The rule of thumb that I picked up is to start with your cup size in LPM (#6 cup = 6 litres/min, etc.)What flow rate do you guys recommend?
Can of worms…..red works fine on mild steel. Grey and blue work for everything. My first projects with this TIG will be mild steel only. Up to 5mm fillet welds with it.
Looking online I ordered grey & blue tungsten to get started.

Is Red also recommended or are these grey and blue OK for most all projects?
Cable wont be rubber if its along an outside wall, it should be single wire armoured SWA cable!I have been putting this off for years but this TIG welder purchase has finally made me get the heavy duty 6mm2 rubber cable supply to go into my back garage.
I can follow the old supply from my front garage where it is fixed along the external wall. So no digging or anything like that. Should be able to sort myself on a Saturday. One 32amp switched outlet in the garage to start with and a long extension lead from the same heavy rubber cable.
This means the garage lighting etc still runs from an independent power supply and the welder or plasma cutter has its own 32amp supply direct from consumer.

Thanks, yes this is what came with the machine, I have a 17 torch coming with the gas lens kit and selection of consumables.Use a bigger cup, youll get better gas coverage….And you wont be the first to have the leads the wrong way round!
Now you have done it. You can't leave us in suspense. So I will ask the question. What on earth is a Mercedes lock tool? LolMy first welding project is Mercedes engine lock tools I designed. I have ten sold at £100 each so it'll pay for this TIG setup and some money in my pocket for the first batch!
I was thinking of ignition lock.. lol but it does make more sense being a camshaft lock.At a guess, for locking the camshafts when replacing the belt.

Seems quite expensive and surely the Chinese would be knocking them out 10 a penny by now.
Good luck with itYes it's lock tools for Crankshaft in 1990s Mercedes V8 engines. No one makes any for them - not like mine anyway!
One can be used below the car to bolt into the ring gear. Much easier than the typical starter motor lock tool which in these cars takes alot of time to install. I have another lock tool also which works when the sump pans and transmission is removed. I needed it myself when fitting new timing chains to my own engine.
I'll share pics once the first batch are done and out there!
