Hi all,
This is my first post here so ill give a short intro on myself! I have MIG & Stick welded as a hobby for about 20 years. I use MIG alot on my car restoration projects. But I have never used a TIG welder before.
I find that I have a few projects at the moment which semi justified buying myself a TIG welder so I started looking for one. Whilst I know they are most likely not ideal I got a great deal on a new Draper 160A AC / DC Pulse TIG welder model 51499. (£400 all in) For me I will only really be using this like once or twice a year so I couldnt really justify spending much more for a starter machine. If I do get onto TIG well like I hope given time then I can always sell this one on and buy a better welder. This one is to get me started and provide full functions I would need from a TIG.
Doing some initial research I knew the Draper Torch is not getting great reviews and people swap them out. I also see that in videos to help learning curve a glass type cup may be recommended?
I will post photos of my current torch and it's connections for ease of reference. It has a gas line and a 2 pin plug. The welder itself controls the gas hence there is no valve on the torch head.
Can someone kindly point me in the direction of an ebay UK link or UK vendor who would sell a good quality TIG torch and also a link for a compatible clear glass "cup" or insulator please? I am a little unsure of whatglass cup kits on ebay would actually fit the torches. As far as I can tell it is a WP-17 type torch I need?
I will only be welding the small mild steel projects, car bodywork repairs, stainless car exhausts & some aluminium welding. Nothing heavy duty.
Thanks in anticipation!
