Hi everyone,
Newbie here with no experience in welding. Welding is something that's fascinated me since I was a young boy. Going through school in the 90s and 2000s I would sometimes wonder why it was never being taught or even brought up as an option. TIG welding and Oxy acetylene brazing interest me most though I really want to learn all different types of welding and be fully qualified in them up to at least NVQ level 3.
Currently I'm 27, with a degree I'm not interested in and working full time as a bartender for way too long. I know for certain that welding is what I want to do as a career, as well as a skill to practise in my free time (with my own workshop some day!) - but I don't have any skills or practical knowledge yet.
Would going to college and studying there for 2-3 years would be the best option?
If I do go for a college, what would be the best course of action if I want to learn all types of welding to at least NVQ level 3 in the shortest time possible? as an example I would much rather do 2 years of intensive full time 5-days a week learning than a couple days per week learning spread over 4 years.
Any advice about getting started in welding, college and other ways of getting involved would be really appreciated!
