Hi guys, not been on here in a while.. I’ve just recently purchased a cheap AC/DC TIG machine and I’m looking for some advice.
I bought it as I want to practice aluminium welding and basically I’m just looking for some pointers on what type of tungsten and filler rod I should be looking for.
The aluminium I’ve been practicing with is 2mm thick and I’ve been using a 2.4mm red thoriated tungsten with 2.4mm filler rod. (The tungsten is what came with the machine)
After doing some reading I’m thinking I’m possibly using the wrong type of tungsten? I also have no idea if the filler rod is the correct size I should be using.. I have managed some half decent beads on flat aluminium sheet but when trying to do an inside corner weld I just can’t seem to get a weld pool going without it turning into a huge mess so I’m not sure if this is my technique or my setup or both..
Any advice appreciated cheers!
