I took delivery of a new to me Boxford CSB the other day. Bit of a gamble buying it from ebay without looking at it. Had my pants pulled down I reckon and wouldn't have bought it had I looked at it but hey ho, I've got it now and it is what it is and it's better than the lathe I didn't have before.
Serious machinists and lathe lovers look away now
My original plan of how to get it on the bench didn't work out, I could lift it with the make shift lever but it would have been all over the place swinging so aborted. Lathes seem to like trying to flip themselves over.
Went with raising on blocks, started well but got very sketchy the higher it got.
It was a relief when it got onto this platform, stability again.
Last bit, very sketchy.
Finally in position
A couple of noob questions now.
How do I straighten up the compound slide (if I've named that right) can't see anyway to release it to set the angle.
Second question, I have the know your lathe download for boxford and it says to unscrew the chuck to remove to select the back gear to lock up the spindle which it does and then to tap the chuck with the chuck key to unscrew the chuck. Chuck is very tight as I've given it a good clout both ways but it's solid. Any tips on how to release? I want to get it off because it's missing one of the bolts that secure it to the plate. Pics for reference.
Cheers everyone once again for tips and advise.
