Our utility sheds were built approx 35 years ago & a basic fuse box was fitted with 1x15a circuit for sockets & a 5a for lights.
Over the years extra circuits were added & it was used as a junction box for the feed to my workshop and our solar panel array. Recently I needed to add circuits for a water heater & a 13a socket. One look inside the existing fuse box told me that it was too full and probably overloaded (the photo was taken after I stripped out most of the wiring).
I was going to have to install a small fuse box anyway to house the rcd & mcb for the water heater so for a few £ more I installed a 6 way hager fuse box.
Most of this wiring was jammed into the old fuse box half the size!
A whole lot tidier & safer. I like these Hager fuse boxes, plenty of room to work, very adaptable and good quality.
I thought I was finished but I was trying to get it done before it got dark and the supply cable from the old to the new box was a bit crooked, but it's not easy bending 6mm T&E.
When I saw it next day it looked bad, especially compared to the wiring carried out by the spark who fitted the control gear for our solar panels.
It's the neatest wiring I've ever seen and made mine look right shoddy. I got to work with a bending spring & some conduit & made this.
Got it installed today & I'm a lot happier with the result.
You may wonder why I didn't fit the new box in place of the old. The problem with that was that the wiring from the solar panels would be too short to connect into the new box. I'm not allowed to interfere with the solar panel wiring so I had to leave the old box in place as a junction box.
