Hi all,
Apologises for me adding to the never ending number of "new welder" posts.
I'm an amateur/hobbyist who does very occasional jobs that are mainly mild steel (2-3mm and sometimes thinner, sometimes to 5mm). It would be nice to also do Aluminium too (spool gun).
I have an old AMT 180 Mig that I was gifted, but it's started to play up so I'm looking for a new welder (inverter).
I've done the usual trick and over-researched, my brain has become a mush and there seems so many conflicting opinions on brands. I was thinking of a mig with spool gun, something like the rtech 180 with the possibility of getting an ac/dc tig down the line. I would have gone for Rtech's 3-1 machine, but it requires a 32A supply (which is pushing the feed to my garage). The r-tech appeals to me due to the 3 yr warranty and service they offer. I appreciate it's a Chinese machine, but virtually all welders in this price range are.
The other machine that caught my eye was the SWP Stealth Digi Mig 200 lcd. This is a multi process machine, but is a lower power than the r-tech, so can run off a 13/16A supply. It comes with a 5 year warranty and is synergistic. What I don't know about is how good/well they stand behind their warranty?
I'm not interested in hearing people say "Rtech or SWP are crap, etc", unless you have first hand experience of their products.
Many thanks,
J.
