I have 2 projects where I opted not,..to butt weld 2-36" pcs of .050" steel because of the probability of heat warpage. This is on the top of a vintage tractor hood.
I need to cut out a very narrow 36" pie/wedge shaped sliver out of the hood top....3/16" at the big end and zero at the front.
My thought was to butt the 2 cut edges together, small gap,..and back with a 36" x 1.5" pc of 14ga or 1/8"..? the spot weld the pcs together with the thicker backing thereby negating the heat warpage effects...Yes?
Your thoughts on this please...all advice welcome.
