Spent the last 2 days with the erectors at the Honey Monster factory in Southall, installing my first design and build frame. It is for an upcoming Sky sitcom. Not normally allowed to take photos etc of the stuff we do , but they were ok with this one.
They will build a 3 story house in the middle 6 metres of the frame , with 2 metre walkways either side to allow film crews , equipment etc to move around. The cross bracing is fully de-mountable, so they can take out the ones that are in the way ( once all the timber joists and flattage are in then its not going anywhere. I designed this from scratch, working with 2d drawings and a sketch up floor plans provided by client. All signed off by the structural engineer. They only changed it twice since it was finalised and fabrication was underway ( which ain't bad in this industry )
11 weeks or so time, got to take it all down , find somewhere to store it , then if the series is a success and they want another, will need to rebuild it somewhere else ( the honey monster factory is being demolished after filming).
They started on Friday at 6pm, i got there at midday Saturday to find they had put this much up
Leaving just a little bit to do
Bolted the pairs of columns together on the floor , then lift into position.
Then bolt them down using M16 X 150 LG concrete screws
A couple of pieces took some thinking about to get them in , due to the low roof with sprinklers everywhere .
But they are a top set of boys, and we had it all wrapped up by lunchtime today ( with an hour break for breakfast at 10am this morning ( Sunday)
