nice sharp wood chisel removes that stuff no problemYes.. I am talking worse can scenario..it's that awful rubber kind of underseal they use...moisture gets in and rots inside out..horrible stuff to remove.
I have decided to fabricate new inner wings and top mounts ect....should be an interesting challenge..
Yes you are correct..although visually it don't look to bad but I know there is corrosion in amongst the seems ect..the top mounts don't look to bad.light rusting underneath. My plan is to remove the sealer and keep the top mounts. Everything will go and I will replace..need to do some strengthening on certain areas to.What you are likely to find also while it looks OK where the lowerinner wing comes down in the wheel well and meets the bottom floor/sill there is a lip with very thick PU under seal. Under that it's likely to have rusted - possible hole depending how bad.
Also in the passenger side right in the bottom left corner footwell - imagine where the inner wing meets the foot well and the lower inner wing structure. Along that seam under there is often rust or even a hole by now.
Where the fuel filter is can get interesting, I assume this is partly due to when the fuel filter gets changed a few times over the years the petrol attacks the PU underseal. There can be some major work to be done round there, every where around the jacking point, behind the fuel filter and spreads up behind the fuel tank.
