Morning All,
I took a risk and bought a fairly cheap migatronic 185MXE without being able to fully test it (aside from powering it on, pulling the trigger and hearing the contactor work and the wire feed motor spin).
As was to probably be expected, upon getting it home it does not function correctly.
Before I start doing some basic diagnostic checks myself I thought I would post here with the symptoms in case any of you knowledgeable folk know immediately what the issue is.
Basically the machine is not starting an arc properly on any settings. You can hear the contactor engage for several seconds (during which it will melt the wire but not even begin to fuse the metal) and then the contactor will open again, even though the trigger is still held. The machine is definitely on the correct continuous weld settings.
Additionally I do not believe the wire feed has anywhere near the correct range of adjustment on the control knob, a quick measurement on full wire speed indicated it was only feeding at ~50% the quoted rate.
If I set the machine to a higher power level and max wire feed it will keep the contactor closed continuously (well, for much longer... I was loathe to hold the trigger longer than necessary if the machine is broken) but will still only do similar to the above symptoms.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jason
