G-day everybody,,,
I am having a problem understanding different wire sizes in relation to contact tip sizes.
I bought a SIP migmate 100 several years ago, and have always used .025 tips (supplied by SIP) with .023 wire,,,oops,,,now you know I am from the other side of the pond. Please bear with me,,,OK?
I had recently just about given up with my SIP as I kept getting lots of birdsnests. Well, a fellow on another forum led me right to the problem and I now have a welder that I love using again. Everybody suggested a new liner, and his suggestion was to carefully adjust the drive wheel tension by deadheading the torch against an unmovable object until the wire slipped instead of birdsnesting. IT WORKS,,,IT WORKS,,!!! Since this great piece of info,,,I have welded lots of feet of wire and not one single birdsnest,,!!!!
Another suggestion was to make sure I had the correct tip to wire size relation. I have googled this but don't really find what I'm looking for.
My questions for the group are"
1. What tip size is recommended for :
.023 wire?_______________
2. What tip size is recommended for :
.030 wire?_________________
Some have suggested to use 0.8 tips (.031) with my .023 wire. Is this too much clearance from tip to wire?
Thanks for any help with this, Joe r
