Hi, i'm in the process of making an aluminium base for a trailer and it's all 3mm / 1/8th thick, a selection of angle and rectangular box section. Someone i know has tacked a lot of it together using Tig but it was slow and the penetration wasn't very good so they suggested they might try an alu spool on the mig welder.
Does anyone have any tips or settings, is it best to always preheat the metal? The tig set of poor then got better as the heat got into it.
On a second note, what do people usually charge for a days welding or hourly if i was to go elsewhere?
