Hi again all. New problem; I'm in the process of setting up a Mapp / Oxy kit. I bought the base kit from EB, it is similar to an Oxyweld 200 but uses a larger refillable oxygen cylinder with a full size regualtor so the sort of thing I've seen on sale for Air Con engineers etc. Utilises a basic torch similar to the Sealey unit, two needle valve adjusters on the torch, and a removable tip which I think I can get alternatives for, the number on the tip currently fitted is "N2"
I ordered Mapp gas cylinder but first small problem was the thread size, so the Mapp cylinder has a male thread (apprx 1" dia) and the ref / valve on the hose needed a cylinder with a female thread (approx 3/4"). I had a vlave to fit the cylinder so I out this in line with the original valve / reg ( I figured safer than just chopping off the original valve and going straight into the larger one in case of pressure)
Anyway the problem is that I can't light the gas easily, there seems to be way too much pressure in the Map gas, I have tried it with the reg / vlave just slightly open andd same on the torch needle valve and can get it to light but any more pressure and it just blows the flame out, so there's no chance of adding Oxygen to the mix.
Checking the Mapp cylinder I see the pressure is 22 bar which is very high so to me it needs pressure reducing regulator. I rang one supplier today but they didn't seem to have much technical knowledge and told me the one they supply was probably just an on off valve. Going to try another supplier tomorrow to see if they know more about their products.
SO I think the kit I have maybe was for use with a different disposable gas cylinder and perhaps that was at a lower pressure.
Any input or knowledge fro the experts here would be most welcome.
