I'm pondering how to get decent brakes on the front wheel of my trike project. I bought a Hayabusa rear wheel. which is good and meaty, takes a big tyre, unfortunately it has a single small disc. I've browsed around trying to find something far bigger with no luck, but today I noticed the brake discs on some Triumph in my mates bike shops were just flat sheet, cut to shape, ground flat. No offset, no carrier etc.
So, could I get one made simply enough, maybe laser cut from 6mm steel, or maybe stainless? Would it work? Would it need heat treating or anything else?
I can make my own floating caliper bracket, and have the disc as big a diameter as I need it.
