So, in the last few months I made the acquaintance of a body shop in the relative local area. A fair deal of practice I've had and access to plenty of scrap panels and paint to practice with
Firstly it appears, with the fluid setting wide open and when spraying water based base coat that blobs of paint were appearing in the surface. I initially thought this was dust but considering we're using a pro downdraft booth here, I had my doubts. As the base flashed off those blobs began to melt into the surface. The next coat saw the fluid on my gun being wound in several turns and there on, no more blobs.
As mentioned previously I was having quite an issue with blobs and/or dust in the paint, when spraying at home. I've experimented with reducing the fluid and pressure when painting water based base coat and quite successfully I managed to paint a panel with no dust or imperfections! I had to reduce the pressure to 15 psi (usually at 20) and reduce the fluid quite a lot, yes it did mean I had a much smaller fan and I had to hold the gun to the surface and travel slower on each pass but it worked.
Question is can solvent paints be sprayed at lower pressures? I realise I do risk orange peel to varying degrees.
