Lorch or Miller AC Tig?

There's nothing wrong with out sourcing, or do you expect a company to produce the components for the Brains.

It's the quality control and backup you pay for. And that goes for any company, who wants to sell a desirable product

no there isnt and if they brought the best liner from one company and the best shroud from another for example i would have no problem paying more money for it but i see no point paying a lot of money to buy a product that isnt likely to go wrong just so you can say it has lorch written on it

i have a lorch m pro 252 and when i can afford it would like to buy a ac/dc tig from them as well but when i brought the mig i brought a parweld torch as i was told it was exactly the same for a lot less money

if it was a plasma cutter i would rather buy a chinese rebranded one that is sold from britain rather than save a few pounds and buy a chinese one as i know there is a fair chance it will go wrong and i would like the backup from a uk company

im saying if it was a complex thing like a welder then yes i would buy from a manufacturer like lorch but for something like a torch where there is very little to go wrong and little expense if it did i would rather buy from a cheaper company if the product is the same

Yes, the Lorch torches have controls for adjusting the various settings without reaching for the machine. I use it quite a bit - pretty handy. You can cycle through the variables and alter their values incrementally from the torch.

Samfish, I got a Lorch T220 used, with pedal, with a load of guarantee left, for £1500. It's a great machine with some special features (like running a dual AC/DC current at once- cracking for bronze on steel), and very easy to set up and adjust. Matt1978 put me in touch with the supplier and he's always made sure the after-sales service has been good- I had a leaky gas connector once...

We have a new torch type also now available called an iTorch, which has a full LCD display in the handle, you can not only change amps and memory up and down, but can also select a further two functions to change, such as pulse freq, ac balance etc etc

S410, who said that about our mig torches? As I think they are a bit mistaken, we don't make the mug torches, they are genuine Binzel, on the smart Powermaster torches we obviously make the clever bit but then they incorporate that into an existing torch design. On the non power master torches, they are just standard mb 15, 25, 36 and abicor 380 types.

Price wise they are very comparable to whatever else is on the market, but the only thing to consider is that with most torch manufacturers they have Premium and Eco range of the same torch type, ours are all the premium sort So that may be the reason they appeared higher cost, but then it's not a fair comparison.

I would be very interested in seeing a machine. You are a bit of a distance from me, but it is no effort to travel really, considering it is a fair chunk of money.

The torch sounds very interesting and a nice touch - it will save having to get up and reach across a large welding table to adjust the machine... I will get fat!

Hi Sam,

I bought a Dynasty (s/h) back in 2006 for home use.
As a new machine (2005) it was loaned by Miller UK to the Technical college in Ipswich for a year. They then bought 6 three phase welders.
A sprat to catch a mackerel.

My local Elmdale rep based in Hadleigh Suffolk, knowing I was looking for a quality AC/DC TIG sold it to me rather than return it to Miller.
Roger is a top bloke with extensive knowledge of welders and welding and is well respected in this area.

I used it most evenings and weekends till 3 years ago when after redundancy I became self employed.
It's now used every day both in my workshop and on site.

Now 7 years old and it's never missed a beat.

When welding is your living you don't want to stop to let things cool (duty cycle) and for this reason I use a water cooled torch,
a necessity when welding aluminium IMHO, although I still jump when the "fan on demand" cuts in.

A very good friend of mine recently started up on his own making aluminium car bodies and has the same machine,
again bought s/h through "Roger the Rep", (if you'll pardon the expression").

I had a visit from an Elmdale rep - Daren I think. I had a quote for the Miller about a year ago, and it was a bit higher than a recent quote I got -not sure if exchange rates are affecting things.

The choice is really hard, considering it is a load of cash for me.
Although it seems I will have a great machine whichever one I choose to buy.

IS THERE ANY WAY THIS CAN BE PUT ON A M PRO WELDER. iM GUESSING NOT BUT I WOULD LOVE IT IF IT COULD. aLSO IS THE M PRO AVAILABLE IN PERFORMANCE LEVEL YET

WERE THEY NOT CORRECT IN SAYING THAT YOU BUY IN THE TORCHES, STICK YOUR NAME ON THEM AND SELL THEM.

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THIS AND CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DO IT AS AS SAID YOU OFFER GREAT BACKUP ETC WHICH SOME PEOPLE WILL PAY FOR

So I went for the LORCH T220 Control Pro, foot pedal and iTorch.

I went to meet Matt at Lorch yesterday and collected the machine.
I could not be happier with my choice, and have alot of respect for the company and its products. They seem like a genuine group of people who want to develop the best welders on the market. It really seems like the products are well designed, in every way. and then made to a very high standard.
The LCD readout on the iTorch screen flips over at the press of a button for left-handed users - an example of a nice touch.

I have no formal training, and have a huge amount to learn! The control pro panel seems very easy to understand. And the machine seems capable of working many of the parameters out for me, until I have the working knowledge to change them myself - Bob suggested a good book to read, I am about to order it.

In comparison, the Miller at work seems a little crude.

Matt and Bob at Lorch gave me a few hours of their time to try and discuss the machine, and welding in general.
