I started my City and Guilds level 2 in MMA this week. The college equipment is rather fancy and it took me a while to get used the the rods (Nexus 3.2) and the welder which was a fancy Lincoln multiprocess three phase thing with digital readout and a display screen. I just about managed a reasonable three pass 10mm T fillet by the end of the class but I was still getting used to doing fillet runs rather than just running flat beads like I've been doing. I've had a bit of practice tonight at home and I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with it all. Here's a few pics. I am stuggling to maintain my angles and lines by the end of the run but I am getting more confident. No doubt I will be back to square one at my next class on Tuesday.
First run root.
Little bit of undercut showing at the end where the angle started dropping down.
Second run went in a bit flat especially by the end.
The third/top run went in a bit squirly and I lost control of the slag a bit causing the inclusion.
I don't have any more steel plate so I just started putting runs in over the top. This one went in a bit flat too. Too steep an angle I think.
This is how it looked by the end. 110 amps 3.2 whitebox rod. 6013. 10mm plate.
I need to get some more 10mm plate from somewhere. Will have to dig through my offcuts pile.
