I had a little welding job to do this morning re-attaching a lug on a starter motor. I set the machine up and on the first strike it arced up properly for a tack.
After that it wouldn't arc, I pressed the pedal and the 'output' LED was lighting but the HF had stopped. I tried arcing on the workbench, then on the earth clamp, then I switched to DC and it worked fine on scratch start but no HF. I cycled the power with no effect, then I shut it down again and checked both of the front panel fuses which were fine. I powered it up again, and the HF worked on about the third go and has worked 100% ever since.
I got no unusual noises or smells before, during or after. Now it's working I don't see how it can be diagnosed. Anyone got any idea on what could have caused this?
