Don't worry too much about a few broken wire strands, each tyre contains many thousands of them.
You shouldn't repair tyres on the outer edge

AA chap was saying they get more bike punctures in the rain for some unknown reason?

then do cars get more punctures in the wet too , , always seems to be wet when I get a puncture and dark , and usually when im dressed well or in a rush.the rain washes smaller flints and other debris into the path of the bike, the part of the road thats usually swept clear by passing traffic.
you could try jamming the tin in the hole ,, with the foam still in it.

Find a polish tire depot, they will plug and patch that no problem ..go to a quick fit center and be prepared for doom,gloom and passed the broomOoo ya bastid!
