planning for the future a bit here, I am due a xmas bonus in work (if I last that long) mid to end November. it should be around 340 quid after the tax man has robbed me. on top of that I am hoping to have about 200 quid put back from my wages to go towards a decent lathe.
now the criteria that it has to have is:
not entirely sure where I am going to put it yet, probably in the shed as it wont get damp in there anymore, and security has been substantially increased now.
I am starting to get a backlog of turning work to do as a sort of side business and there is only so much I can do in work when working around the toolmaker and his priority jobs
now the criteria that it has to have is:
- must be screwcutting, I don't care about having a gearbox or changewheels, but it has to cut metric and imp threads as although most of my screwcutting is metric, I also do a few gun barrels in 1/2" unf, not bothered about left hand threads, but would be nice also
- must have atleast 500mm between centres
- preferably have atleast an inch bore thru the spindle
- preferably a metric machine
- good solid construction, preferably a gearbox for spindle speeds, or variable control, not a fan of belts and pulleys but if I must then I will
- must come with atleast one chuck, tailstock drill chuck, live centre and preferably some cutting tools
not entirely sure where I am going to put it yet, probably in the shed as it wont get damp in there anymore, and security has been substantially increased now.
