Aye these days it seems that all safety gear has to be professionally made from an approved design to a set standard & be covered by manufactures liability insurance before any insurer will even consider insuring your company or yourself as a self employed person .
It kind of makes sense when you see some of the lash up's some guys use in the name of assessed safety needs .
a bit of 1.5mm cable strapped across to a drainpipe works great
completely off topic, but thats taking my job at work......
I keep telling my bosses at work, that while they go up the career ladder they need someone like me at the bottom, so while they may look down on me as they go up, I'm the one with my feet on the ground holding the ladder in place, and without me being their there is risk of the whole organization collapsing around me.
Good idea. As I'm only using this ladder in my own place, I can set some eyebolts in around the walls.Don't forget where ever possible to tie the ladder off a few feet up from the floor ( use a big strong screw in hook etc if possible ) so it is being pulled to the wall as you ascent it .
That was supposed to be part of the design, but got shoved to one side in the need to use it. A straight copy of some rubber mats that flip over to adjust thickness. If you do a lot of ladder work it's worth buying or making a simple adjustable sleeve so that the shortest leg can be accounted for on sloping ground . Also to carry several 15 x 15 " 3/4 ply squares to allow you to do quick simple leveling where shallow kerbs etc abound .
It works as well as I'd hoped. I should have made one years ago. But, who you gonna blame when it don’t work
Info from my BT ladder climbing course June 1988
A guy at work came back from holiday to find more flowers in his flower bed than when he left. They were there to mark the spot where his handyman died while he was away.
Evidently he was painting the eaves of the house and needed another foot of ladder height to reach the top. So he stood the ladder in the wheelbarrow.......the rest is self evident.
