I am not sure if my welder is borked or if it's just me who is bad at learning, or if it's a bad ground. But when welding it feels like the welder does not operate consistently. Seems to happen more when I do sheet metal work and it's lots of tack tack tack. Sometimes it works fine and welds fine, other times it sputters and doesn't work well, starts badly. Last night the trigger stopped responding, not sure if it overheated or something, it's a 250A machine and I was doing body work so I don't think it was that. Turning it off and back on was the only thing which solved it. It wouldn't even feed the wire with the switch inside the welder. Happened twice.
I've bought the machine used and it's the only mig I've ever had so I have no other frame of reference, I've used my dads welder (old blue wallius) a little but not enough that I feel can say it did the same or not. I've done all the usual fiddling, I am very careful to make sure I got a good ground, I put on a new clamp and cut off a bit of the old ground wire that looked damaged. The torch itself seems fine too.
Anyone else experienced this, is it just normal? Seems to be like this even with clean sheet metal on the bench.
