I have to make a new strainer for my motorbike (Yamaha XS650). The standard primary strainer is top and bottom mild steel with turned over edges, with gauze between (tends to split). I am changing the gauze for coarser, 28 hole per inch, 0.35mm wire, as I run a remote spin-on filter. The standard gauze is held in place with glue, so not under great pressure. Will it be best to soft solder or silver solder with MAPP gas, or TIG braze (keeping the heat away from the gauze by only heating the mild) or anybody have any other options?
