Ive got some 60 x 60 x 5 angle iron that ive salvaged, but need to make it longer so I can use it for a garden table project. I would like (subject to my skill level) to weld it together so once I've ground it back and painted it the join is as invisible as possible.
What's the best to make this weld. I was thinking to clean of paint etc and then grind the ends to be welded with a some V prep. Clamp both sections to another longer section of the same angle iron, make sure its straight etc etc and then weld with my buzz box and 3.2mm 6013's. Was planning to weld both inside and outside and then only grind back the outside as the inner welds will never be seen.
Its my first time that about to tackle metal this thick where the welds need to be reasonably good as the frame once made will be supporting a granite slab
Will this work ? and is there anything else I need to know or do.
Would like to keep the two joined bits as near as dam it as straight as I can
