Hi folks.
A couple of days ago, while out in the garage trying to blowtorch two bits of aluminium box together, and failing miserably, repeatedly, I decided it was time to bite that old bullet and go out for a welding machine. I've been putting it off for many years. I have torched aluminium before without too much difficulty, but not box, I think one bit (in the plane of the torch) was soaking up all the heat. Anyway, that's not important anymore. Yay!
Now, I'm no welder, I've done a bit, but a long time ago, and I certainly wouldn't have taken the results hone to show my mum! But, they were functional welds and did the job at the time. I haven't however, Tigged. Is that the term? Tiggered?
At the shop the salmon (typo, but that will do!) did the usual thing of bamboozling me with numbers and sold me more than I needed, but it was on a good deal, and I can see the advantage of having something better than I am, something I can grow into. And it'll give me something to learn over the summer. So I'm now the new owner of a Jasic P200 acdc machine, it's the analogue version which I'm happy with as I can easily see what everything is doing.
When I say I haven't tigged, it doesn't mean I don't understand it, all I need is practice and a brain imprint of amps and ramps and gas flow for different materials. I am certainly under researched in the torch area, and that is the point of this post. (Just thought I'd write a bit of an introduction at the same time.) (Which you're probably sick of reading, so I'll get on with it.)
The torch, well, isn't great, with everything tightened it still all feels slack, everything still moves about. I'm not sure if that's the design, if it's normal, or if the collets are slightly oversized, it just feels like nothing quite screws together perfectly. As the box was on such a good offer I have some cash spare and thought I'd upgrade the torch, can only help eh?
So, anyone out there with a Jasic? Who has upgraded the air cooled torch for a better air cooled torch? With a button?
If you have, could you please let me know what you got and how it helped? As said, I'm pretty knew to this, any and all info would be very much appreciated.
I should add, I'm in a wheelchair so I can't use variable power with my foot. I wouldn't rule out some kind of variable button, but that can come when I have the basics sorted.
Many thanks.
Cheers.
