Hello All, I’m newer to posting on a forum than welding. I have a couple of Range Rover Classics as my projects. I started welding fixing up an Alfa Romeo, I had as a student at Uni, with oxyacetylene which I do to a reasonable standard, and strangely find therapeutically relaxing to do! Then moved to MMA for the heavy stuff and at some point got a Clarke 85A inverter unit with a free TIG kit so took up TIG, not the neatest but hoping to improve. The TIG kit had no gas control so cost a fortune to run. Working on the RRC’s has introduced me to MAG which the guy running the place, a coded welder, has said I’ve progressed well in. There I use his Oerlikon M260C, a friend gave me his unwanted Migmate 130 which I’ve modded with an internal 24V/6.5A SMPSU, a digital PWM motor speed controller, added a bracing plate across the roller fixings and a EUROMIG socket for the torch (I don’t know if others have noticed how much the plastic wire feed base flexes when the torch lead is moved?). The result is that the Migmate for jobs up to 1/8” plate welds well enough. My Christmas present to my self this year is an Oerlikon Citig 1500 DC bought off EBay coming from France so will get it in the new year and then I can get to improve my TIG welds.
Happy New Year
