Hi all.
Please can I have some advice. My employer has been kind enough to provide it's Welders and Fabricators with the following air fed masks:
http://www.esab.co.uk/gb/en/products/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.product&productCode=450982
However, after the first three days some of the welders have experienced burns (some quite bad) on their necks where the helmet does not adequately cover. You will see from the design (above) that they do not include a 'lip' that covers the user's neck, as, for example, their model 1000 does:
http://www.esab.co.uk/gb/en/products/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.product&productCode=450979
However, the model 4000 also acts as a grinding visor whereas the 1000 does not. Our employer would prefer us to use the 4000 for grinding too as, quite rightly, it is less time consuming than taking the helmet off to put on a full face grinding visor (although only very slightly, as I have found this week)
My question to you guys is please can I ask if the design of the 4000 (with no 'lip', as I call it) is known to be a hazard for not sufficiently covering a welder's neck?
Whilst Googling this model, what I can see is:
The people in this PDF on page 2, 5, 21 and 25 seem to all be wearing overalls that cover the top part of one's neck whereas we wear collared shirts under. However, burnt necks were never an issue with the previous helmets that we have used for the last +2 years, simply because the design precluded this:

My point is that whilst a new design of PPE would cover our necks sufficiently, I feel that this would be putting a sticking plaster over an issue whereas being as a different(better?) design of helmet would eliminate the issue completely.
Thank you all in advance.
