I have a fairly low cost (£50) auto darkening welding helmet.
When using it for TIG welding, I am finding that it does not always react instantly. This is resulting in a blind spot, and having to stop welding for a few minutes for my eyes to recover before I can see the pool again.
Played with settings, cleaned, left in sun for a few hours and changed batteries. No different.
This is probably happening in about 1 in 20 times.
I am welding 2mm or 3mm mild steel, so minimum current level is set current is 50A, with a short ramp-up.
I am now getting into the habit of closing my eyes every time I start a weld.
Is this normal?
